Mafia Inc. started back in 2003 as the project of Daniel Drexlmaier — known in the community by his alias “Garyx7de”. What began as a small browser-game experiment grew over the years into one of the longest-running German mafia browser games of all.
Programming, graphics, game balance, servers and community support — for all those years, the lion’s share of it ran across a single desk. Out of passion, through countless nights, across many cities, versions and fresh starts. Mafia Inc. was never a paid studio product, but a labour of love kept alive by the enthusiasm of its players.
Over the years, however, the original codebase had grown badly outdated — and at some point simply stopped running. So in 2026, Daniel picked the project back up and, with the help of AI, lifted the entire codebase onto the latest web technologies: a complete technical overhaul that brings Mafia Inc. back online and ready for the future.
There isn’t really much time left for it — as his main job, Daniel runs his own company, the DBE Academy. But that’s exactly where AI becomes the decisive lever: it takes a large share of the work off his hands and, in doing so, frees up the very hours needed to keep coding Mafia Inc.
And so Version 3 carries the same vision from 2003 — just on a modern foundation. The drive has stayed exactly the same: a place where a few lines of text turn into an entire underworld.
